Colossians: Fighting to Win

Christian's have huge battles with remaining sin...that's normal Christian life.  But God has done great things that assure our victory and He calls us to do battle using some powerful language! Continuing in the Colossians series, focusing on Colossians 3:5-11

He enumerates certain vices which he calls, imprecisely but elegantly, “members”. For he imagines our nature as being, as it were, a mass composed of various vices. They are, therefore, our members, in so much as they are, in a manner, fastened to us and cleave to us....He means that we are “earthly” so long as the vices of our flesh flourishes in us, and that we are made “heavenly” by the renewing of the Spirit.

Sermon discussion questions:

  • What (&Who) is the "Old Man" and the "New Man"?

  • What are the foundational realities that are essential to our victory over sin and growth in holiness?

  • What does it mean to:

    • Put sin to death

    • Put off (strip off) sin?

  • Why does being "half hearted" in this battle hurt us so badly?
