Jesus' Ongoing Work

What has Jesus been focusing on since His ascension?

Acts 1:21-22   “Therefore, of these men who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, beginning from the baptism of John to that day when He was taken up from us, one of these must become a witness with us of His resurrection.”

2 Corinthians 12:11-12   I have become a fool in boasting; you have compelled me. For I ought to have been commended by you; for in nothing was I behind the most eminent apostles, though I am nothing.  Truly the signs of an apostle were accomplished among you with all perseverance, in signs and wonders and mighty deeds.

Acts 19:11-12   Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul,  so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them and the evil spirits went out of them.

Sermon Discussion Questions:

  • What has Jesus been focusing on since His ascension?

  • What are the "gifts" (or gifted persons) Paul mentions and why these ones?

  • What should you say to someone who claims they are an apostle today?

  • What are the pastors and teachers of the church supposed to be doing?

  • What will be the result?  Especially in terms of unity and maturity of the church?

  • Why is the church so important?
