A Renewed and Renewing Mind

How do you know God's will in areas where the Bible does not specifically speak:  Smartphone use, social media, and other modern realities?  God has given us guidance in His Word!

Circumspectly- attentive to all circumstances of a case or the probable consequences of an action; prudent, careful.

Ephesians 5:10    “Test and prove what pleases the Lord.”   Berean Standard Bible

Ephesians 5:10   “discerning what is well-pleasing to the Lord.”   Berean Literal Bible

1 Corinthians 10:11   Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.

Romans 15:4   For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.

2 Timothy 3:15-17   and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for [c]instruction in righteousness, 17that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Hebrews 5:12-14   For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. 13For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. 14But solid food belongs to those who are of full agethat is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

James 1:5   If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

James 3:13   Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom.

James 3:17   But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

Sermon Discussion Questions:

  • When did we get "the mind of Christ"?

  • How do we continue the process of renewing the mind?

  • Where does the Holy Spirit, proving and approving, the Word, wisdom all fit into this process?

  • How do we know God's will in things the Bible does not address?
