Walk in Love: Imitate God

Ephesians tells us to imitate God... wow that's quite a command!! Specifically to walk in Love as His beloved children. What does that look like?

1 John 4:16   And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.

Romans 13:8   Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.

Romans 13:9   For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Romans 13:10   Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

Galatians 5:6   For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love.

Acts 14:15-17   and saying, “Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men with the same nature as you, and preach to you that you should turn from these useless things to the living God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and all things that are in them, 16 who in bygone generations allowed all nations to walk in their own ways. 17 Nevertheless He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good, gave us rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.”

Nehemiah 9:17b  But You are God, Ready to pardon, Gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, Abundant in kindness, And did not forsake them.

Matthew 5:43-45   “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

John 3:16   For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

2 Corinthians 5:19   that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

Sermon Discussion Questions:

  • Why is Love so important a part of holiness?

  • Describe God's love and how we can imitate Him in that love?

  • Do people show up on your radar?  Why or why not?

  • How can we grow to be more like God in love?
